"Oh by the way" – My Healthcare Advocacy Story

Healthcare Advocacy

The CEO here at WHS makes a point of visiting our long-standing clients on a fairly regular basis. It’s an occasional meet and greet to make sure everything’s running smoothly and a good way to garner feedback on our various workplace health solutions.

So, they’re sitting in their meeting, running through the general platitudes of how things are going and he just happens to say “Oh, by the way, we have a new health advocacy product, have you ever given any thought to what you might want to do for your employees this way?”

You could see the light bulbs coming on.

It turns out this particular client had been mulling over the idea of a healthcare advocacy program, but they didn’t know where to look. They had no idea that we ran workplace health programs or solutions like that. Like many of our older clients, they had kind of pigeonholed us into this occupational health role of only caring for injured workers.

Soon, everyone was talking and realizing all the other ways we could impact their healthcare costs. Now, we’re in discussions with them and getting ready to plan a new program.

It’s part of our job to make sure our existing clients and new clients know about all of the services that we provide, but it’s often a surprise for them when we do. Many of them see occupational health in one way, so it often takes a simple sit-down to open up all the other cost-saving possibilities that we provide.

In the end, it was a great opportunity for us and a pleasant surprise and a new workplace health solution for them.
